The proportion of patients discharged from a hospital-based inpatient psychiatric setting on two or more antipsychotic medications. This measure is a part of a set of seven nationally implemented measures that address hospital-based inpatient psychiatric services (HBIPS-1: Admission Screening for Violence Risk, Substance Use, Psychological Trauma History and Patient Strengths completed, HBIPS-2: Physical Restraint, HBIPS-3: Seclusion, HBIPS-5: Multiple Antipsychotic Medications at Discharge with Appropriate Justification, HBIPS-6: Post Discharge Continuing Care Plan and HBIPS-7: Post Discharge Continuing Care Plan Transmitted) that are used in The Joint Commission’s accreditation process. Note that this is a paired measure with HBIPS-5 (Patients discharged on multiple antipsychotic medications with appropriate justification).

• Patients who expired
• Patients with an unplanned departure resulting in discharge due to elopement
• Patients with an unplanned departure resulting in discharge due to failing to return from leave
