Percentage of patients, regardless of age, who undergo central venous catheter (CVC) insertion for whom CVC was inserted with all elements of maximal sterile barrier technique, hand hygiene, skin preparation and, if ultrasound is used, sterile ultrasound techniques followed

Percentage of thoracic surgical patients aged 18 years and older undergoing at least one pulmonary function test within 12 months prior to a major lung resection (pneumonectomy, lobectomy, or formal segmentectomy)

Percentage of patients aged 18 years and order undergoing elective lobectomy for lung cancer who had a prolonged length of stay >14 days

Percentage of patients aged 18 years and older undergoing elective esophagectomy for esophageal cancer who developed any of the following postoperative conditions: bleeding requiring reoperation, anastomosis leak requiring medical or surgical treatment, reintubation, ventilation >48 hours, pneumonia, or discharge mortality

The STS Lobectomy Composite Score comprises two domains:

1. Operative Mortality (death during the same hospitalization as surgery or within 30 days of the procedure)
2. Presence of at least one of these major complications: pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, bronchopleural fistula, pulmonary embolus, initial ventilator support greater than 48 hours, reintubation/respiratory failure, tracheostomy, myocardial infarction, or unexpected return to the operating room.
