Number of pneumonia patients whose initial emergency room blood culture was performed prior to the administration of the first hospital dose of antibiotics

Pneumonia patients 18 years of age and older who have an initial blood culture collected in the emergency department

Exclusions
•Received in transfer from another acute care or critical access hospital, including another emergency department
•No working diagnosis of pneumonia at the time of admission
•Receiving comfort measures only4
•18 years of age
•Do not receive antibiotics or a blood culture
•No chest x-ray or CT scan that indicated positive infiltrate within 24 hours prior to hospital arrival or anytime during this hospitalization
