1.3 Measure Description

Percentage of cardiac surgical patients aged 18 years and older undergoing procedures with the indications for prophylactic antibiotics AND who received a prophylactic antibiotic, who have an order for discontinuation of prophylactic antibiotics within 48 hours of surgical end time.

        • 1.14 Numerator

          Cardiac surgical patients who have an order for discontinuation of prophylactic antibiotics within 48 hours of surgical end time.

        • 1.15 Denominator

          All cardiac surgical patients aged 18 years and older undergoing procedures with the indications for prophylactic antibiotics AND who received a prophylactic antibiotic

        • Exclusions

          Exclude patients for whom prophylactic antibiotics was not ordered by reason of appropriate denominator exclusion.

          If using the medical record or hybrid methodologies, exclude patients who have documentation in the medical record of: medical reason(s)
          for not discontinuing prophylactic antibiotics within 48 hours of surgical
          end time, cardiac procedure.

          If using the EHR methodology, exclude patients using the codes listed in the electronic data collection methodology or who have documentation in the medical record of the appropriate denominator
          exclusion.
