1.3 Measure Description

Percentage of patients at least 18 years of age and younger than 80 with a back pain episode of 28 days or more without documentation of red flags who had surgery within the first six weeks of back pain onset (overuse measure, lower performance is better).

Note: This measure is applicable only for physicians who perform surgery.

        • 1.14 Numerator

          The number of patients with a surgical intervention to treat back pain within the first six weeks of pain.

        • 1.15 Denominator

          Patients at least 18 years of age and younger than 80 with a back pain episode of 28 days or more who have had back surgery.

        • Exclusions

          Patients with documentation of red flags.
