1.3 Measure Description

Percentage of pregnant patients who present to the ED with a chief complaint of abdominal pain and or vaginal bleeding who receive a trans-abdominal or trans-vaginal ultrasound.

        • 1.14 Numerator

          Number of appropriate patients who receive a trans-abdominal or trans-vaginal ultrasound.

        • 1.15 Denominator

          All pregnant patients who present to the ED with a chief complaint of lower abdominal pain, and or vaginal bleeding.

        • Exclusions

          1. Women for whom location of pregnancy is already documented or reported as intra-uterine
          2. Patient refusal
          3. Ultrasound is not feasible (facility reason)
          4. US machine not available
          • ED does not have access to ultrasound
          5. Licensed independent provider not credentialed in ultrasound.
